Target has stepped up to the plate to support families in Houston, TX and surrounding communities with donations of time, money and gift cards. The Target donation of $200,000 includes gift cards to the Salvation Army and local organizations to be distributed to impacted families and to be used for essential supplies. It also includes $85,000 to the American Red Cross for food, shelter and rapid clean-up response. These donations are on top of a $125,000 donation of funds and gift cards to support families impacted by floods in April, bringing the total of financial commitment to over $325,000.
In addition, Target employees have given their time to prepare meals and pack comfort kits of supplies for impacted neighborhoods. These teams of employees are working closely with the local community to organize future volunteer projects.
“When disaster strikes one of our communities, the Target team’s commitment to help response and recovery efforts is a very personal one, because the impacted neighborhoods are home to our guests and team members,” says Laysha Ward, chief corporate social responsibility officer, Target. “We’re so proud of our team members’ efforts, not only as volunteers, but also in making sure our stores closest to the disaster areas are ready with needed supplies. We’re honored to work with such great partners like the American Red Cross and Salvation Army to provide relief and comfort during the response and recovery.”
Supporting communities has always been a part of the Target corporate philosophy. That includes both finances, talent and resources. Each year, Target gives 5 percent of profit to communities, which adds up to more than $4 million each week
