JetCares Give a Pack Program

The JetCares Give a Pack Program allows Jet customers to support enrolled nonprofit organizations by making donations to them in the form of JetCash. These donations are used by the nonprofits to purchase JetCares items, like Cuties Economy Plus Packs of diapers.Through the JetCares Community Diaper Program, nonprofit organizations already receive special discounted pricing on these diapers.  This program enables customers to get involved in the giving process.

Why diapers?

Nearly 1 in 3 American families can’t afford diapers. Low income families can spend up to 14% of their annual income on diapers. Low income families struggle to afford enough clean diapers to get by because they do not have as much access to big box stores, credit, or means to buy in bulk at lower prices. This can lead to serious health consequences for both parents and children.

Shopping at Jet via iGive.com means an automatic donation for your iGive Cause and JetCares gives you the chance to chip in even more if you can spare it!

VSP Mobile Eye Clinics Help

VSP global logo

Vision Service Plan (VSP), the California Optometric Association, Adventist Health, the Kings County Action Organization (KCAO) and the Tulare County Office of Education  have teamed up to bring the mobile eye care clinic Mobile Eyes to Central Valley California cities like Lindsay, Hanford and McFarland. California State Senator Andy Vidak has made  been a critical advocate in this effort. Vidak has made it his mission to help ensure those in the rural parts of California Senate District 14 have access to eye care.

The 2016 Mobile Eyes venture was the best to date in the Valley. In 2014, Mobile Eyes conducted 57 free eye exams and provided 80 vouchers to patients in Fresno and McFarland. In 2015, Mobile Eyes served nearly 80 patients in Hanford and Lindsay, and provided 200 vouchers.

At VSP Global®, our mission is simple: We help people see. In 2016, they brought eye care to those in need by co-hosting multi-day events in 10 cities across the U.S. For each event, VSP will provide no-cost eye exams and glasses for qualifying adults and children in need through our VSP Mobile Eyes® program. Beyond 2016, VSP continues to work with the cities to determine how to create sustainable access to eye care services even when the mobile eye clinics are gone. This will support VSP’s larger goal of providing access to eye care to 1 million individuals by 2020.

Huggies Matches Rewards Point Diaper Donations

Through the end of the year, Huggies is matching all Rewards Point diaper donations made to help babies in need.  Additionally, Huggies announced that it’s giving hugs for the holidays to help babies in need this giving season and beyond. In early 2017, Huggies will become the first global diaper brand to offer a program that will enable diaper banks to purchase bulk quantities of high-quality Huggies diapers at competitive prices. Huggies diapers can be purchased through iGive at multiple retailers including:Target, Walmart, Walgreens and more.

This announcement is part of Huggies continued commitment to answering President Obama’s March 2016 call for helping the one in three families suffering from diaper need, the inability to provide fresh, clean diapers for their babies.

“These efforts support No Baby Unhugged, our promise to help babies get the hugs they need to thrive,” said Giusy Buonfantino, president of Kimberly-Clark Baby and Child Care North America. “We are inspired by parents’ hugs – nurturing baby with care, cradling baby in comfort and surrounding baby in protection. The holidays are the perfect time to think about others and give back, so we’re turning that inspiration into diaper donations and providing even more access to our high-quality Huggies diapers to benefit the National Diaper Bank Network.”

“Having access to a Huggies quality diaper through this program is the best value the network has had yet,” said Joanne Goldblum, chief executive officer of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN). “In addition to the 20 million diapers that Huggies donates to NDBN each year, the new diaper purchasing program will provide NDBN-members access to a trusted source of diapers needed to fully serve struggling families in their local communities.”

Parents can help, too. Simply donate Huggies Rewards Points, and Huggies will match every point donated through Dec. 31. Check out the new Huggies Rewards app or visit Huggies.com to find out how to get started and donate today.

“We want all babies to have the opportunity to grow up healthy and happy,” Buonfantino said. “In 2017, we will continue to do our part as a leader in the effort to combat diaper need by driving donations and advocacy, and we look forward to launching our new program that will help more babies in need through the National Diaper Bank Network.”

Making a Difference in Diaper Need: A Look Back at 2016
Throughout the year, Huggies responded to President Obama’s call with incremental diaper donations and partnerships to expand upon its long-standing commitment and leadership in the fight against diaper need. To date, Huggies and its partners have donated more than 48 million diapers and wipes in 2016 alone through:

Kimberly-Clark first brought the issue of diaper need to the forefront in 2010, when a groundbreaking Huggies study revealed one in three U.S. moms suffer from the inability to provide fresh, clean diapers for their babies. These parents often have to choose between paying for food or diapers, which can lead to increased stress and strife. Huggies has donated more than 200 million diapers and wipes since 2010 and helped build up a capability of 300+ diaper banks across the country as the founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network.

Additional information about the new diaper purchasing program will be available for diaper banks in early 2017. In the meantime, stay tuned on Huggies Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

Sprint Provides Free Broadband Service to More Than 4,200 Illinois Students

sprint logo

Sprint Team members, joined by Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti and Illinois Public School faculty, announced new investments to Illinois Public Schools under the White House initiative, ConnectED. The high-speed LTE broadband service Sprint brings to these schools will help more than 4,200 Illinois students stay connected at-home through a Wi-Fi hotspot. The value of Sprint’s service during the term is estimated at more than $8.09 million.“Without internet access, millions of children, especially minority students living in low-income communities, would be left behind.

Last year, Sprint and Governor Rauner announced the first few Illinois Public Schools to take advantage of the ConnectED initiative, where Sprint provided more than $3 million in free broadband service. This announcement includes additional Illinois Public Schools with a larger investment and a larger number of students impacted. Sprint pledged to provide wireless broadband connectivity for 50,000 low-income K-12 students across the U.S. as part of the White House initiative, ConnectED – a public and private effort to get technology into classrooms and into the hands of teachers and students to help bridge the “digital divide.”

Sprint is proud to provide free broadband service to the following Illinois Public Schools:

  • Leyden High School District 212
  • Hillside School District 93
  • Maine Township High School District 207
  • Township High School District 214
  • Glenbard Township High Schools District #87
  • Herscher CUSD2
  • La Grange District 105
  • Schaumburg Community Consolidated District 54
  • Consolidated High School District 230
  • Wheaton Warrenville CUSD 200
  • Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96
  • East Alton-Wood River SD 14
  • Community High School District 99
  • Huntley Community School District 158
  • Elmhurst CUSD 205
  • Skokie School District 73.5
  • Oak Park & River Forest SD 200

In addition to the ConnectED initiative, Sprint has donated $250,000 to fund an expansion of the Connect Chicago Challenge – citywide effort to make Chicago the most skilled, most connected, most dynamic digital city in the world. The Connect Chicago Challenge will increase digital access through comprehensive programming, outreach and public access in neighborhoods throughout the city.

“Sprint has a long history of supporting initiatives that use innovative technologies, services and devices to enhance educational opportunities,” said Jim Mills, Sprint president of Illinois and Wisconsin. “During this critical time for high school students, Sprint is proud to provide free broadband services so that there are no interruptions in their learning.”

For students who do not have access to the Internet at home, it significantly limits opportunities to complete homework assignments, research next-level learning, and apply for jobs. In the state of Illinois, about 54 percent of the students live in low income households and qualify for free or reduced lunch.
